Review

I absolutely liked this book. First off, it was an easy read with very little confusion. Everything was straightforward and very fun. Secondly, this is a twist on a classic. To see those changes in the book was cool because it shows how many different directions a story can go. That is why Disney is such a creative entertainment company. People can retell the story in a thousand different ways while alos paying homage to the original. This story pays homage to the original by adding scenes that were in the movie, in the book. There were also some new additions of two characters that were refreshing to see. It gave the book some spice in it because it shook up the story. Lastly, since this is a retelling of a story, the imagery and descriptions of the action were already implemented in my mind. Throughout the whole novel, I just pictured the animated film ad it was very easy to see the twist and turns. Some people might not like that, but I did because it made me feel like a child again

My main critique of this novel was the charm of the genie. I am so used to Robin Williams's voice as the genie. Williams brought the charm and humor to Genie so I was expecting that in the book. But, it seems as if the genie was pushed off to the side in this novel. I didn't really see him much. When I did see him, his dialogue was so scarcer that it was hard to put the tone to the voice. I mean there were some lines of Genie that made me chuckle, but not enough of it. It just seemed like Genie was a surface character in this novel when he was a more dimensional character in the movie. He was the main plot in the movie and just a subplot in the novel. Overall, I really liked the creativity of this novel.

Recommend/ Rating

My rating for this book is 3 out of 5 stars. I do recommend this book. It is an easy read. There are also a series of reimagined Disney Princess books and I can't wait to read the rest of them.
