Synopsis
"PhD candidate Phoebe Walsh has always been obsessed with true crime. She's even analyzing the genre in her dissertation—if she can manage to finish writing it. It's hard to find the time while she spends the summer in Florida, cleaning out her childhood home, dealing with her obnoxiously good-natured younger brother, and grappling with the complicated feelings of mourning a father she hadn't had a relationship with for years.
It doesn't help that she's low-key convinced that her new neighbor, Sam Dennings, is a serial killer (he may dress business casual by day, but at night he's clearly up to something). It's not long before Phoebe realizes that Sam might be something much scarier—a genuinely nice guy who can pierce her armor to reach her vulnerable heart" (Amazon.com)

Review
This was a very different read for me. At first I though that this would have been a thriller of mystery book, based on the title, but it turned out to be completely different. I wasn't to mad though because going into the blindsided made me want to read it even more. One thing that I liked the most about the book was the realistic aspect of the book. The sibling dynamic of Phoebe and her brother was very sweet. Phoebe returning to her childhood home made for a a great setting based on the contents of her story. She had to mend friendships, figure out relationships all while finishing her PhD dissertation. It was a lot at stake for Phoebe and enjoyed the first person POV because I git to be one with the main character and sort of hear her thought as her life was unraveling.
While I did like the slow burn romance between Phoebe and Sam, her next door neighbor, I think that there was some parts that was too slow. Because of the pacing there seemed to be a rush towards the end of the novel. For instance, once the climax was reached the rest seemed to be mushed together in one without really much excitement. On top of that, there was some parts that were kind of predictable. I don't read as much romantic comedies, but I have watched a couple of TV and the plot seemed to be unraveling the same way. While it was romantic, it became foreseeable in the end. As I was reading another book review I saw the same critic so I am glad that I am not the only one.
