Five Days in Los Cabo

by Mariah Sturdivant

Published June 5th, 2022

My family and I took a little vacation to Los Cabo for five days. It was so fun and I just wanted to document and explain everything that we did! Additionally, my older sister made a vlog about each day on the trip. I will be including links o her youtube videos so you can watch them!

Day 1

My family and I didn't really do much on the first day since that mainly was a travel day. However, since there were twenty-two of us we had to ensure that everyone made it safely. My sister and I spent most of the time looking for our room, but once we found it, the vacation felt as if it finally started!

Front View of Hotel Riu Palace

For the five days, my family and I stayed at a resort called Hotel Riu Palace and it was a very beautiful resort. The pool was amazing and a bar was attached. There were smaller pools for children and a nice view of the ocean. Unfortunately, no one was allowed at the beach because of the waves. However, the view of the beach was amazing.

Once we were all settled in we got dinner at Mar De Cortes, which was a buffet-style restaurant. There was a variety of food such as pasta, tacos, chicken, etc. The food was good and very filling. Once we all ate enjoyed the pool for a little bit before I headed back up to my room and got ready for the night. Once I was all dressed and ready to go back out, we enjoyed a show that the resort had put together every night while having a couple of drinks. The show included dancing and really good live performances.

The show ended, but the night didn't. One of my cousins, who have been there before, took us to a small nightclub located in Santa Fe. The club was fun and cute, I would recommend it for a good time. The night ended with all of the younger cousins going back to the rooms and just chilling.

Day 2

I started off day two by getting breakfast at Mar De Cortes, and the breakfast was just as good as the dinner. After that, I went with my family to plan out the excursions that we will be doing on the trip. Once we decided I headed back to my room and relaxed before going to the Jungle Party. The hotel at Santa Fe throws a pool party almost every day with different themes, the theme for this day was jungle.

The party was so lively and I had a blast! The music was good, the drinks were good, and the entertainers were fun. There were dancers at every corner of the pool that helped encourage you to dance and have a good time. The atmosphere was very welcoming and I left the party very happy. However, since the party was at 3 p.m, everyone was too exhausted to do anything for the rest of the night. So, my sister and I just ate dinner and took a couple of pictures by ourselves. Also, we had to wake up early for our excursions the next day and we needed to be well-rested.

Day 3

With an early rise, day three has commenced. My family and I ate a quick breakfast before going on the excursion. The excursion for day three was a boat ride for a dip in the water then a trip into the downtown area for shopping and tequila tasting.

views of the dock

The boat ride was nice, there were some really breathtaking views and it was a perfect day for a boat ride. Along the way, we saw other resorts, historical monuments, and even sea lions! The boat ride took place in Baja California Sur.

Once the boat reached its destination, we had the opportunity to take a dip into the water and snorkel to look at the fish. There was a lot of fish and they were all so pretty. Our tour guide even threw bread in the water to attract more fish and it was cool seeing them eat the bread.

After about forty minutes, it was time to head back to the docks so that we can get to the second part of our excursion which was shopping and tequila tasting. Our tour guide took us to a small shop filled with souvenirs located in Cabos San Lucas Centro. The souvenirs were all hand-made by local families. I got a couple of souvenirs because I really like the authenticity of them, I got a keychain wallet and purse and I am very happy with my purchases.

Our next stop was the tequila tasting which was really informative and taught me a lot about the process of tequila. We each got three different small shots of tequila: one was strong, the next somewhat sweet, and the last very sweet. We even learned how to properly take a tequila shot.

Since we had a little time before our bus picked us up, we decided to get something to eat in Downtown Cabo, so we went to a restaurant called Abolengo. I ordered a couple of steak tacos and a margarita, which was delicious. After finishing, we headed back to the bus and relaxed a little at the resort.

my lunch at Downtown Cabo

It was time for dinner and my family decided to eat something other than Mar De Cortes, so we went to a steakhouse located at the resort. I ordered the salmon supreme and for dessert a chocolate cake. The meal was ten out of ten. I enjoyed it thoroughly and it was very filling.

Everyone was once agon exhausted from the day so we just ended the night with a show and the theme for this show was Mexican Night. The performers had on authentic Mexican clothes and there was live music, it was a good end to the night.

Day Four

It was an early start to the day once again. It was also another day filled with excursions, however, these excursions were more active than the boat ride. Day three was filled with UTV riding, ATV driving, camelback rides, ziplining and so much more! So, we were on the bus on our way to Wild Canyon to get the activities started. The first activity was UTV riding.

Even though I wasn't driving, the UTV ride was very thrilling. We took a drive around the park as the sand and dirt were flying everywhere. After that we took a drive around the desert we had to drive on top of a hanging bridge! The bridge was very scary and we had to drive on top of it twice! Nonetheless, I am glad that I did it because it was something new that I got to experience.

the hanging bridge

Camelback riding was next, but before we left to do that we decide a couple of us decided to do a quick zipline. Ziplining was short, but very exciting. I got a taste of what the air attraction was like at that park. It was also a nice warmup for the bigger air attraction...The Sling Swing! But, before I get to that I have to talk about the camelback ride.

the camels for the camel back ride

The camelback ride was very educational. I learned that there are two types of camel, how fast camels run and even their life expectancy! When we were done with the ride, the workers brought out the only female camel that they had at that park and she put on a little show for us. If you want to see more of that then check out my sister's youtube video. It was then time for the last activity that I wanted to do, which was the sling swing.

A sling swing is a swing that hangs high up in the air. Once you are placed in the swing, someone will count you down and once you hit one the swing will sling down and up, just like a swing at a regular park. If you are confused don't worry because I have a video of it for you to see.

After a day of excursions, we went back to the hotel to get ready for the White Party at Santa Fe. I spent that time in the pool and enjoying the resort.

The party was at night, so it was a lot more vivid. Everyone was up and dancing. We all enjoyed our company and this was, to me, the highlight of the vacation. My family and I y really enjoyed ourselves and the playlist was amazing. Overall, after two days of excursion, the white party felt like a good treat for us. For the 'after party' a couple of my cousins went to one of our rooms with a small pool attached to it and just hung out there before we headed to bed.

Day 5

Day five was just a pool and resort day. I slept in, ate breakfast, and took a COVID test before coming back to the states. After that, me and a couple of my family members just went into the pool and enjoyed our resort day. We played volleyball had drinks and really soaked in the last bit of sun.

For lunch, we had El Medona, which was an Italian-style buffet restaurant on the resort. While eating the amazing pasta, I had a pretty view of the ocean which was a nice touch to a good lunch.

The nighttime activities included just a show put on by the resort. It was the resort's twenty-fifth anniversary so there were so many activities to do around it. The show was absolutely incredible and I was genuinely entertained. This was the best show of the week! The performance was fun and wild, the song choice was on point and I just really had a good time. The performers did a mashup of songs and recreated the looks of the artist.

the show for the last night

We spent the rest of the night packing and getting ready for the flight the next day.

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at Cabo. The resort was big and spacious, the activities were fun, and the memories were good. I am so glad to have visited a new place with my family. I hope to go back at some point in life and I can't wait to see where I will travel next! If you want to see more pictures from my trip follow me on Instagram @mariah.sturdivant_!
