My Review for “Bad Boys: Ride or Die”
I found the most recent installment of Bad Boys to be quite enjoyable. When the third film came out in 2020, I wasn't sure what to expect for the future of the franchise, but this latest installment restored my faith in it. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence delivered the same comedic magic that made the original films so great. I loved the way this film handled its action sequences. The stunts were not excessive or unbelievable, which I found impressive, especially considering the ages of the two main characters. This film gave an aura of higher budget and higher quality because even the special effects were seamless. This movie set the perfect tone for the summer film season, and I was impressed by the overall execution of the story and action. The main theme of this film seemed to be about brotherhood and friendship. Mike and Marcus have been through a lot together and they always has had each other’s back. This film was no different in handling that friendship.
The pacing and sudden internal problems in the movie are the main reasons why I feel it's not quite perfect. For example, in the third film, Bad Boys For Life, the sudden death of their former captain felt rushed and not fully explored. Throughout the movie, Mike was shown trying to avenge Captain Howard's death, but it feels like the impact of his death on Mike isn't properly developed until later in the film. Additionally, there were hints of Mike struggling with anxiety, but the reasons behind his problems were never thoroughly explained. These issues with pacing and character development made the movie less satisfying for me. But, the experience of seeing the movie in theaters was amazing. This was a good jumpstart for the summer movie season.
