Can you believe it's already about a week into 2023? The time is already going fast, but that's not stopping me from achieving what I want this year. I have learned so much from last year and thought it would be nice to share some of those goals with you.
Read More Books!
Last year, I got back into reading and it was as if nothing had changed. I was reading books like crazy without a break. This year, I wasn't to continue that. To help me achieve this goal I downloaded Goodreads to keep up with the number of books I have read. I also downloaded a book called Likewise which is a book recommendation app. Lastly, I got the Ultimate Reading Challenge booklet for Christmas which will help tremendously when it comes to my TBR list. The goal is to read these books by the end of this year.
Submit My Work/ Write More
When I started this website in April 2022, I was very proud of myself because it meant that people could read what I wrote. Whether it's one person or one hundred people at least I know that it was something I wrote and belonged to me. However, I want to expand that even more! Submitting my work will help with seeing how far my writing has come. Plus, anything can happen. Even writing in a journal will help with skills. Maybe someone will like my work enough that it will be published somewhere. Being a writer means taking risks and I need to take more risks in order to achieve the things that I want to do in life.
Post More on Social Media
Branding yourself is one of the most important things when expanding your work. One of the ways to do that is through social media. Luckily, I lived in a world where there are so many social media apps. All the more opportunities to gain some followers. With some organization and strategy, social media branding will surely be easier for me. Because of this website, I feel a lot more comfortable with social media and I will surely keep that going in 2023.
Reduce Things From My Diet
I feel like every New Year this is always something that people say this. However, since I stopped competitively swimming, I feel like my diet has become looser. I drink more juice and eat junk food like it's nothing. Even though a lot of people cannot see it, my body has changed because of this. The main things that need to be reduced are dairy, juice, and sweets. My goal is to only consume those things once a week. This also has a lot to do with working out. I feel like I am very consistent about going to the gym. However, I am very bad at finding workouts. Due to all those years of being an athlete, I always had a coach who would lead or send workouts. Now it's just me. A way to help me fix that is I got a workout book for Christmas with workout plans that I will surely keep up with.
Save Money
At some point this year I would like to move out and build a space of my own. But, as many of you know, Chicago is expensive! It is very intimidating and discouraging to look at those numbers for an apartment. But, the only way to fix that is to save money. This means limiting the number of times I order Uber Eats or takeout, keep building my savings account, and finding activities that involve little to no money. This is the one goal that I am most determined about.
Expand My Music Library
Even though I already listen to different types of genres, I think that I need to keep that habit. Exploring different genres will help diversify me and really emerge with the storytelling of the artist. I also would like to listen to music while I work, write, etc. Music really helps with my creativity and makes it flow more freely within me.
Develop My Website More
I have a lot of exciting things developing for my website. I am adding movie reviews and an artist spotlight. The movie reviews will be similar to the book reviews. I would give a summary of the movies, the rating of the movie, and the genre of the movie. The artist spotlight is something new for me. I basically will ask people if they know any artists from Chicago who deserve a shoutout. Then, with the artist's permission, I'll post their artwork on my website. I'll include their socials so that people can follow them and asks them to tell me about themselves. Since this website is about various art forms, I think that everyone should be celebrated. The artist can be local or they can simply just be from Chicago and they moved somewhere else. I think that this is a good way to integrate the artists of Chicago.
